Christmas 2010

Christmas is the best time of the year! 🙂

We had a delightful Christmas 2010 with performances together with Cantus Musicus at the German Speaking Society of Kuala Lumpur’s annual Weihnachtskonzert (Christmas Concert) at the Bukit Nanas Convent Chapel in Kuala Lumpur, as well as corporate Christmas parties around town, including a corporate event at the Italian/fusion restaurant Tatto.

Here are some photos!

Lullaby of Birdland & Short People

Our mid-week gig this Oct 2010 consisted of irreverently mocking Short People (by Randy Newman, arr. Simon Carrington) and a world premiere (right?) of in-house arranger Lee Fong’s a cappella reconstruction of Lullaby of Birdland (Words: George David Weiss, Music: George Shearing), at a concert at the German ambassador’s!

The concert, Abendlieder (Evening Songs)  featured KL-based international chamber choir Cantus Musicus, who performed a programme of romantic lieder commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of composer Robert Schumann, as well as a selection of folk, blues-jazz and pop songs spanning from the early 19th century to the end of the 20th century.

This is a live recording of Lullaby of Birdland. In this video, the SnL Singers are the 8 individuals standing at the front of the stage.

Viva La Honda!

The SnL Singers had a blast performing numbers from Gershwin to Coldplay with a host of other artistes including Janet Lee, Dennis Lau, Yuri WongXandria Ooi and Japanese drummer Nakanishi Takayuki, at Honda‘s 2010 media gathering!

The diverse repertoire, representing Honda’s themes of the Joy of Selling and the Joy of Creation ranged from jazz standards to alternative-rock/pop hits, to the familiar melody of the theme song for the event, Ode To Joy (i.e. An die Freude – the final movement from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony!)

Here are some shots from the event! Location: Gsix, The Gardens, Mid Valley City (January 2010).
